UTStarcom Announces Two New Executive Appointments

HONG KONG, Oct. 27, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UTStarcom ("UTStarcom" or "the Company") (Nasdaq:UTSI), a global telecommunications infrastructure provider, today announced the appointment of two new members to its regional leadership team that will strengthen the Company's operations and go-to-market strategies in the North America and India markets.

Aman Sehgal has been appointed Regional Head of Sales and Business Development of North America and Shalin Shah has been appointed Co-General Manager of India, effective immediately. Mr. Sehgal and Mr. Shah will report to James Lu, President and Head of Global Sales and Business Development.

In June 2014, UTStarcom opened a new larger Silicon Valley office to enhance its sales and marketing efforts with telecommunications carriers and cable service providers in the United States, a key growth market for the Company. India is a strategic growth market for UTStarcom and one in which the Company has an established and growing leadership position given an approximately 35% market share in the country's broadband infrastructure market.

Aman Sehgal will be based in UTStarcom's Silicon Valley office and responsible for building and expanding relationships with customers and key business partners, and implementing comprehensive sales and growth strategy in North America. Before joining UTStarcom, Mr. Sehgal worked as Head of Global Sales at BelAir Networks which was acquired by Ericsson in 2012. Mr. Sehgal led global partner strategy development for the WiFi business and engaged with key telecom operators in developing the Wifi adoption. Mr. Sehgal also held a senior position as Director of Channel Sales at Redback Networks. Mr. Sehgal received an MBA in Marketing from the University of California, Berkeley.

As Co-General Manager of UTStarcom India, Shalin Shah will help drive sales development and the overall growth strategy in India. He has broad international experience and will bring a combination of strategic, financial and operational perspectives to UTStarcom's Indian operations, as he has done since August 2014 when he started serving as a special advisor to UTStarcom India. Mr. Shah will continue to serve as a Senior Vice President of Shah Capital.  Prior to his career with Shah Capital, Mr. Shah was an Investment Executive at Barclays Ventures, a mid-market private equity arm of Barclays PLC. in London. Mr. Shah holds a BS in Finance from Rutgers University.
