New Platform Extends the Capabilities of UTStarcom's Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) Platform

As an extension of UTStarcom's Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network
(GEPON) platform that was announced in 2005, the FTTx product line provides
capital preservation and the flexibility for service providers to transition
from hybrid fiber and copper networks to all fiber networks -- covering a full
spectrum of deployment scenarios. The suite also offers an end-to-end IP
architecture that provides highly capable products with low capex and opex.

'As an all-encompassing technology, the FTTx portfolio offers a rich set
of services that enable optical network units (ONUs) to accommodate both
residential and enterprise networking needs,' said
James Mao, vice president
and general manager of the broadband business unit at UTStarcom, Inc. 'The ONU
integrated into our FTTx product suite provides a highly scalable platform
that can deliver Gigabit Ethernet interface to each user.'

There are five key technology solutions that make up the product suite,
including the iAN8K(TM) B1000 Multimedia Network Edge, BBS 4000 Optical Line
Terminal (OLT), iAN8K(TM) B110 IPDSLAM, iAN8K(TM) B120 ADSL2+ and VoIP Combo
and BBS 1000+ OLT. UTStarcom has also added two critical new products to the
platform: the iAN8K(TM) B1000 -- a field proven, carrier-class Unified Multi-
Service Access platform that supports various services, including DSL and PON
applications --and the BBS 4000 -- a carrier class, high-density, FTTx
platform.

Carriers' largest and most profitable market segment is the 'triple play'
bundled service offering of voice, video and data to residential customers.
The iAN8K(TM) 1000 allows service providers to seamlessly migrate their
current networks to provide the next-generation of broadband offerings, such
as IPTV, VoIP and high-speed internet access, while maintaining legacy TDM
services and applications. iAN8K(TM) 1000 also has the ability to offer these
services from an integrated platform, which inversely decreases the capex and
opex, while offering high-performance switching and advanced video streaming
support features.

A vital component and transport mechanism of the platform, the BBS 4000 is
an OLT that provides a direct optical interface to the Ethernet/IP network
core. By partnering with UTStarcom's ONU, it completes the optical last mile,
which enables the product to be an efficient optical access and transport
platform. BBS 4000 offers a cost-effective triple play transport, customized
broadband service offerings, flexible provisioning and effective Layer3
Ethernet Switching no matter which ONU is utilized.

'We are excited to be introducing this comprehensive FTTx platform into
UTStarcom's product portfolio at NXTCOMM,' said
Brian Caskey, vice president
of worldwide marketing for UTStarcom, Inc. 'As the company's global client
base expands, we need to offer innovative, full-service products that meet and
exceed the broadband infrastructure requirements of our clients and their
customers.'
