UTStarcom Displays Broadband and Optical Network Infrastructure Technologies at the 2015 Optical Fiber Conference and CCA Global Expo

HONG KONG, April 3, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UTStarcom (Nasdaq:UTSI), a global telecommunications infrastructure provider, participated in the 2015 Optical Fiber Communications Conference (OFC) and Exhibition in Los Angeles, United States in 24-26 March 2015 and Competitive Carriers Association(CCA)'s 2015 Global Expo in Atlanta, United States in 24-27 March 2015. The Company showcased its latest developments in its broadband and optical network infrastructure technology, and held meetings with industry analysts and executives from cable television, broadband and telecommunications service providers at OFC 2015.

OFC is the largest global conference and exposition for optical communications and networking professionals. UTStarcom's delegation was represented by Mr. William Wong, UTStarcom's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Min Xu, the CFO, Mr. Tim Ti, Senior Vice President for Advanced Network Architecture and Strategic Business Development, Mr. Steven Chen, Vice President for Product Development Department, Mr. Zhaocheng Huang, Vice President for Global Operations, and Mr. Aman Sehgal, Head of Sales and Business Development of North America.

During the conference, Mr. William Wong, UTStarcom's Chief Executive Officer, stated, "UTStarcom is a leading infrastructure provider that enables your network infrastructure to be entirely in the cloud. The OFC is on the forefront of the telecom and data networking trends. UTStarcom brings expertise within the telecom industry to deliver efficient solutions to network operators and we provide integrated solutions from access points to the MNO core. The audience also appreciates the advancements in our product lineup to improve broadband network infrastructure and operations."

At the OFC Conference, UTStarcom has paved the 100G highway of metro networks with TN765. By introducing 100G to metro network, the TN765 enables operator to simplify their metro networks and realize immediate cost, space, power and operational benefits. The implementation of 100G in the metro also brings better network latency and improved scalability that it has seen in deploying the technology in its long-haul network. The Company has successfully deployed the high-end packet optical transport technology, the TN765 with the tier-one carrier in Japan.

Mr. Steven Chen, Vice President for Product Development Department, gave a presentation titled "Packet Optical, SDN & Next for Metro." At the presentation, UTStarcom introduced its SOO (Software-defined Open Optical) SDN Product line that delivers the power of SDN. It is a simple software upgrade to the existing network infrastructure, which can transition operators' network to the level of flexibility, and hence be ready to efficiently deliver tomorrow's network services. The Company introduced new SOO service --"uFlex BoD" that provides SDN bandwidth on demand service for Ethernet leased subscriber, and it will start the first trial with its key customer in Japan.

Mr. Tim Ti, Senior Vice President for Advanced Network Architecture and Strategic Business Development delivered a presentation titled "Cloud at Residential Broadband Edge." At the presentation, the company also unveiled a SDN/NFV-enabled network infrastructure and capitalized on virtualization NFV with mCloud. Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technology helps telecom operators to reduce the variety of vendor-specific equipment and technologies used on a single metro network, and to migrate their networks onto a common platform of standard low cost computing servers, with pay-as-you-grow network expansion strategy.

The network function virtualization in UTStarcom solution is implemented based on its powerful SOO SDN controller. Thanks to its scalable architecture with multiple servers, its "all-in-one" architecture can also include various functions like WLAN access control (AC), L3VPN, telco CDN, DPI, wireless gateway, and also other functions provided through 3rd party software. As a result, customers and operators gain unprecedented programmability, automation, and network control, which enable them to build highly scalable, flexible networks that readily adapt to changing business needs.
